Meowy Monday: Cat photo of the week
First I wanted to show pics of Vitfluff today, but I felt it was too sad a way to start a week. So instead I'm showing two pics of Snuttis -- which means that she's been featured in three of four Meowy Mondays. Hope the others don't get too jealous.
Many years ago, the local power company "dug down" the the overhead power lines, replacing them with cables. At the time, many wondered why the phone company didn't seize the opportunity to switch from phone lines in the air to protected underground cables. Our cats were very thankful they didn't as they love the phone and electricty poles, losing the wooden electricity poles, at least they still had two phone poles to use as scratching posts and to climb up. In fact, a few of our cats have actually climbed all the way up!
This was Snuttis' first try at climbin the phone pole. She got to about my eye height before stopping. (Not scared, just bored, she tells me to make clear to you.) Julle, Jinja and Jisse were also around, both showing the kittens how it's done and how much better they, the big cats, are at climbing.
lol perfect shots
ReplyDeleteThanks! And I was lucky, having such a blue sky as backdrop that day too (I might not get along that well with my sister's camera, but have to admit it's pretty great when it comes to capturing blue skies).
DeleteI"m not going to show my cat this fab pic. I think she'd be very jealous of this versatile scratching post/climbing pole. I hope you were smiling when writing this Meowy Monday post after the obituary for Plutten. Many cats means lots of love, joy and happiness, but also many losses and lots of grief. I"m glad that you have these all these cats to comfort you. It is easy to see Snuttis is bored: How long do you need me holding on to this stupid pole? Anna
ReplyDeleteYes, as you say, many cats do mean many losses over the years. And many happy moments. Right now, for example, I'm writing this on a laptop, sitting in bed with Ullegull sleeping on my left side and Snuttis on my right. And there's a grumpy Randa nearby too. (correction: Snuttis is lying on my chest purring.)
DeleteI'm glad we've always had other cats to comfort us and cheer us up when coping with the loss of a cat or kitten. If nothing else, the fact you have someone who still needs daily care, means you can't just sit in a corner, shutting the world out. You have to go on, have to look ahead instead of being stuck in grief. Not so that you forget the one that died, but you can see the good things in life too and not just unfair deaths and meaninglessness.
Can't begin to imagine how empty it must be for those cat owners who lose their one and only beloved kitty! I do understand why they often buy a new one, not as a replacement but because you need a cat, both to comfort grief and to make you happy again with their shenanigans and cuddles.
This Black Panther will surely be one of those who reach the top. I'm not sure but there seem to be scratch marks after earlier climbing efforts on the pole. Really nice photos.
DeleteI just hope she learnt how to get down too -- that's usually the problem with cats, isn't it? Up's easy, down's hard...
DeleteYupp, that's decades of cat scratch marks on that pole. Some scratch marks are made by weather and wind and repair men, but especially on the lower part of the pole (not visible in these pics), you can see how generation of cats have made their marks in the same spot over and over again.
